Away from the bustle of Niseko’s big resorts lies Moiwa, a small ski ground that packs a lot of punch when it comes to world class powder riding.
Moiwa’s infrastructure consists of only three lifts, but it’s what lies beyond an avalanche safety gate at the top of the quad chair that makes it a unique place to ride. A steep sided bowl, lined with perfectly spaced trees acts like a catcher’s mitt, loading up with snow during each one of the area’s classic winter storm cycles. When this bowl fills to the brim with Hokkaido’s deepest and freshest, OYUKI comes out to play.
OYUKI isn’t the only Niseko based brand that draws inspiration from riding Moiwa’s powder stashes. Our friends from Offshore Snowshapes base themselves at the foot of the resort. Like us they’re drawn to the place’s natural beauty and, of course, clockwork snowfall. Company founder Josh Monin says, “Having our factory at the base of Moiwa gives us immediate access to test and ride our hand-crafted boards in some of the deepest snow in the world. Moiwa is the perfect location to achieve the feeling of being immersed in the true elements of Hokkaido. A mellow powder junkie’s paradise…”
To honor our connection with Moiwa, OYUKI recently chose to open its first pop up store in the resort’s base lodge. The walls of the store are decorated with OYUKI’s products specifically adapted to riding powder, all of them designed and tested around Moiwa and the greater Niseko area. Make sure you come for a visit and, more importantly, get out there and shred. You’re sure to love Moiwa just as much as we do.
